I know, I know: Father’s Day isn’t until Sunday, BUT I had the best conversation with my dad yesterday (well, I guess it was more of a two day thing– I’ll explain).
Let me paint the picture for you. On Sunday, my roommate and I were doing some grocery shopping at our local grocery store. As we were walking around the store, I saw Puffy Cheetos. And I said, “OMG! Cheese doodles!” She got all excited and was like, “Where are the cheese doodles?!” Evidently, there’s a difference between Cheetos and Cheese Doodles — I always call puffy cheese puffs Cheese Doodles and the crunchy cheese puffs Cheetos… I don’t know why, but that’s how I roll. Anyways, she was saying that she hasn’t seen Cheese Doodles on the West Coast and it’s an East Coast thing.
Being from New York Having lived on the East Coast my entire life, I never realized that not everyone in America has Cheese Doodles. Anyways, I wanted me some Wise Cheez Doodles.
I called my dad when I got home and asked him if he would send me a “I miss all things New York” care package. He told me to send him an email with the list of stuff I wanted. So yesterday morning, I sent him that list.
Here’s the email
So… I know they have this at Stop and Shop which is why I’m asking you to go there.1. Stop and Shop (or Nature’s Promise) Peanut Sauce — you would be shocked to find out that they don’t have that here.2. Swiss Black Cherry Jam … it’s kind of a square bottle with the Swiss flag on it.3. Wise Cheez Doodles (one bag of the crunchy and one bag of the puffs) — they don’t sell Wise products on the West CoastThanks dad!
Stop and Shop is our grocery store at home — if you’re from Maryland or the Mid-Atlantic region, it’s the same as Giant. It’s awesome. It’s better than Safeway, Nugget, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe’s combined. Would you like to know why? Because it is — they also don’t mind when you dance and sing in the aisles (something I have personal experience with).
Anyways, a few hours after I sent my dad the email, we had this little Google Chat exchange: (He called me a little before this and I asked him why he called)
Dad: must have butt dialed you
Me: thanks. I feel loved.
Dad: you should. you are. the items on your list are weird
Me: hahaha. Why are they weird?
Dad: 2 different types of cheese doodles?
Me: crunchy and puffed!
Dad: what ever you say and you can’t get peanut sauce
Me: what why?
Dad: no I don’t believe that they don’t have peanut suace in Ca
Me: They don’t have the peanut sauce I’m familiar with.
My dad thinks I’m weird, but at least he’s sending me cheez doodles and peanut sauce right? He didn’t question the black cherry jam though — interesting. He’s also gotten some pretty weird requests from me in terms of bringing/sending stuff to California. I had him smuggle two things of schmaltz to California in February because making my own is yucky (it literally stinks up the house and your clothes for DAYS) and I couldn’t find any in the greater Sacramento area.
I may post again later today depending on my mood.
Keep in touch.
